Independent Trading Technology Review

How we helped a global ETF trading firm see its estate clearly and decide what to prioritise

Evidence and delivery status

Assessment and prioritised recommendations delivered

The situation

A global ETF trading firm, headquartered in Europe, wanted independent assurance on a trading technology estate built up over many years of successive investment. QTC worked in a joint engagement with a specialist capital-markets consultancy, acting as subject-matter expert for trading and D2C systems and infrastructure.

The challenge

Like many established trading businesses, the firm had developed its platforms in phases. Several pricing and execution engines ran in parallel as newer capabilities were introduced alongside their predecessors, and desk-built spreadsheets and scripts supplemented the core systems where the desks needed extra flexibility.

The review therefore focused on where simplification, resilience and clearer ownership would deliver the most value, and in what order.

What we did

  • Assessed trading, pricing, risk, connectivity, market-data, research and cloud platforms.
  • Spoke with the trading desks about what works well, what could improve and why supplementary tools exist.
  • Separated confirmed facts from assumptions, inferences and recommendations, so every conclusion could be traced to its evidence.

What the client asked for

Prioritised recommendations to reduce delivery risk, speed up market and counterparty access, strengthen operational control and improve resilience. They also covered platform simplification, data and model governance, and sharper build-or-buy decisions.

What we delivered

An evidence-based assessment and a prioritised roadmap that set out what to address first and why, with resilience for revenue-critical components and clear end-to-end ownership of the architecture as recurring themes.

Beyond the review

We went on to deliver a separate, deeper report on growing the client’s direct-to-client (D2C) business line. That work has its own case study.

Why it matters

We assess systems the way a trading desk uses them. Our advice is independent, evidence-led and candid about risk. If you are modernising platforms, expanding into new venues or channels, or need assurance before a major programme, we should talk.
